SIM Energy was established in 2015 with a mandate to manage, operate and develop Brookfield’s growing natural gas storage asset portfolio. Currently SIM Energy manages and operates the Lodi Gas Storage facility, which is comprised of the Lodi and Kirby Hills facilities, located in Northern California with 30.7 Bcf of gas storage capacity. In addition, SIM Energy manages 15 Bcf of contracted capacity at Tres Palacios Gas Storage in Texas.
SIM Energy is sponsored by Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, an entity that operates long-life, high quality infrastructure assets primarily in the utilities, transport, energy and communications infrastructure sectors. These assets are located in North and South America, Europe and Australia.
SIM Energy’s team has substantial expertise and knowledge of the natural gas storage business having managed approximately 400 Bcf of high quality, long-life natural gas storage assets in key North American locations.
Simon Dupéré President and Chief Executive Officer
Simon is the President and CEO of SIM Energy LP. Simon has over 28 years of active experience leading and managing multidisciplinary teams in the upstream and midstream gas industry with both start-up and senior Canadian and U.S. companies. Prior to starting SIM Energy, Simon served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Niska Gas Storage Partners, the largest independent publicly traded (NYSE) owner and operator of natural gas storage facilities in North America. He also served as the Chief Operating Officer of Niska overseing and growing the gas storage operations from 140 Bcf to 250 Bcf of gas storage capacity. Previously, Simon served as President and Chief Executive Officer at Intragaz Inc., a natural gas storage company engaged in the development and operation of two gas storage assets in Quebec. Earlier in his career, Simon started in the upstream sector as a geophysicist and senior reservoir engineer for major oil and gas companies. Simon holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics Engineering from Laval University in Quebec City.
Kevin Donegan Vice President Finance
Kevin is the Vice President Finance of SIM Energy LP. Kevin has almost 20 years of finance and accounting experience with various public and private entities in, and servicing the upstream and midstream energy industry. Kevin’s most recent role prior to joining SIM was as the CFO and VP Finance of Montana Exploration Corp., a TSXV-listed company in the exploration and production industry. Prior thereto, Kevin spent 8 years as the CFO of Blaze Energy, a privately-held upstream company with substantial midstream operations including gas gathering/transportation/processing and natural gas storage services. Earlier in his career, Kevin gained experience from Quicksilver Resources, Altagas and Deloitte. Kevin holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Saskatchewan and is legacy Chartered Accountant member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.
Hardip Kalar Vice President Marketing and Optimization
Hardip is the Vice President Marketing and Optimization and is responsible for the commercial activities of SIM Energy LP. Hardip has 15 years of varied experience in the natural gas business. Hardip spent the previous 12 years at Iberdrola Canada Energy Services Ltd., (formerly PPM Energy) working in a variety of roles related to the Canadian gas storage business. Hardip’s most recent role prior to joining SIM Energy LP was as the Manager of Marketing at Iberdola, the third largest independent owner and operator of natural gas storage in North America. Hardip holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Finance from the University of Calgary.
