Facility Description

The LGS natural gas storage complex is a state-of-the-art, high deliverability, and multi-turn depleted reservoir natural gas storage facility strategically located in Northern California’s growing major load area near the San Francisco Bay and Sacramento demand centers.

LGS is connected to the Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) intrastate gas pipeline system (PG&E lines 400 and 401). LGS currently provides 30.7 Bcf of working gas capacity through two fully integrated gas storage facilities – Lodi and Kirby Hills. The facilities have a proven track record of safe and reliable operations.

LGS is managed by SIM Energy which is sponsored by Brookfield Infrastructure Partners L.P.

Located just north of Lodi, California, this site is situated in one of California’s major wine grape growing regions, the Lodi Appellation. The storage reservoirs, which are accessed through 17 wells, lie approximately 2,200 feet beneath the surface and cover approximately 1,500 acres. The compression/dehydration facility is equipped with four natural gas driven engines totaling 18,000 horsepower and two glycol dehydration trains, each with a capacity of 250 MMcf/day. Thirty-one miles of 24-inch diameter pipeline links the facility to an interconnect with Pacific Gas & Electric’s line 401 just north of Antioch, California. The facility has been in operation since January 2002.

The Kirby Hills site, located in Montezuma Hills, nine miles southeast of Fairfield, California was developed in two phases. There are 18 wells that access the storage reservoirs located approximately 2,000 to 5,500 feet beneath the surface and covers approximately 200 acres. The compression facility is equipped with four natural gas driven engines totaling 8,600 horsepower. Six miles of 16-inch diameter pipeline links the facility to an interconnect with Pacific Gas & Electric’s line 400 approximately 6 miles west of Rio Vista, California. The first phase of this site has been operation since January 2007, and the second phase went into operation in 2009.
